What to think about when choosing a halogen oven

Although there are a variety of halogen ovens on the market, they are all essentially the same machine; comprising of a glass bowl, high and low cooking trays and a removable lid that contains the halogen heating element.

And given that cooking results are essentially the same across the board, what should you look for when choosing you halogen oven? It basically comes down to your personal circumstances and your budget.

Although they come in different sizes, it makes sense to buy one with a bigger bowl, should your budget permit, as this means that you can cook for more people than usual if need be. A smaller bowl does not make any difference other than the fact that you can fit less in it!

In addition, some models come with extenders to increase the capacity so, again, it is worth going for one of these models should your budget allow it.

One problem many people have when using a halogen oven is that there is not always a lid stand provided. This can prove problematic when trying to take food out after it has been cooked as there is nowhere to put the lid as the heating element will burn the kitchen worktop.

So you should also try to opt for one with a lid stand or, even better, a model with a hinged lid.

One final thing to look out for is the range of extras you get free with the machine as some will come with the bare minimum of two cooking stands while others will come with a full set of utensils and other extras.
